Hi! I’m Aroa

I’m a telecommunications engineer, but if I had to choose between a cable and a crochet hook, there’s no question: give me a ball of yarn. My job may be very technical, but I’ve always loved making things with my hands.

At home, for example, every Christmas we choose a geeky theme and make our own decorations for the tree: Harry Potter, Super Mario, The Nightmare Before Christmas… Any excuse is a good excuse to get creative.

But my crochet story began three years ago, when some friends who had just had a baby came to me with an idea. They wanted a baby mobile with geeky amigurumi characters and asked if I thought I could make one.

I didn’t even know what crochet was, let alone an amigurumi. But they knew how much I loved crafts, so they trusted me. And I said yes without ever having picked up a crochet hook in my life.

And That’s How El Pony Tejedor Was Born

I taught myself, learning through trial and error, unraveling my work and starting over until I finally managed to crochet the characters for that baby mobile.

They were my very first amigurumi, and I was incredibly proud of them. Looking at them now, I’m glad to see how much I’ve improved, but they still mean so much to me: they were where it all began.

Today, I design crochet patterns and make amigurumi, combining the things I love most: creating with my hands and bringing to life characters from the geeky worlds that have always been part of my life.

And Why El Pony Tejedor?

The name is a little nod to The Lord of the Rings, which I absolutely love. It’s inspired by The Prancing Pony, the inn in Bree.

In Spanish, The Prancing Pony is called El Pony Pisador, so I played with the name and changed Pisador (“Prancing”) to Tejedor (“Weaver”). That’s how El Pony Tejedor came to be — a little Spanish wordplay that brings The Prancing Pony into my crochet world.

And that’s how El Pony Tejedor was born: from a project for friends, a huge desire to learn, and a name with a little touch of Middle-earth.
